The 2018 plan
2017 was a momentous year for Astley Vineyard, and now that 2018 is here, we don’t want it to slow down one bit! It’s still early days, but here’s an idea of what we’re planning this coming year:
We rebranded and released four wines this Winter, yet there are still more to do! 2018 will see beautiful new labels on all of our remaining wines, with a strong chance of two new vintages being released this year.
Stocks of our Severn Vale 2014, Foundation 2015 and Madeleine Angevine 2015 are beginning to run low, so stock up soon if you enjoyed these wines!
Finally, a lot of you asked about our Late Harvest wine this Christmas. Sadly this is still out of stock, but we should see its return later on in the year.
The demand for our vineyard tour vouchers this Christmas was quite staggering!
We aim to make our tours even better in 2018, with a focus on group sizes, a better booking system, using more local suppliers, and improving the vineyard experience. More news on this in the coming months.
Some of you also bought our premium Adopt A Vine Experience voucher! This once-a-year, hands-on experience is scheduled for March, and will undoubtedly be a memorable experience for those of you that come. Tickets for this exclusive event are still available.
We’ve made a lot of improvements to our site since July, including our new cellar door shop, removing the dark, looming conifers at our entrance, and decluttering our carpark. 2018, however, will see even more, and even BIGGER improvements to the infrastructure of our site, so be prepared for a bit of mess and some big changes!
The car parking area will see the most change, with a new cellar door building being constructed there, a complete resurfacing of the area, as well as some tweaks to our warehouse construction. We’re hoping to have a lot of these elements completed by Summer this year.
Daisy, Tim and Matleena have also started work on managing our woodland. This in itself is a long term project, but it will undoubtedly be included in our vineyard tour experience.
Linked to the above are some changes to our opening hours. “Dry January” means that the next 3 months will likely be very quiet for our shop, so with all of the planning, construction and pruning we need to do, a shortening of our opening hours is very much needed.
Our doors are now open Friday to Sunday, 11am to 3pm. If you have a specific need to visit us outside of opening hours, please ring or email ahead and we’ll try to arrange something with you.
Events and tastings
This is very high on our lists of things to achieve this year. Not exclusive to our own wines, we want to give as many people the opportunity to taste and learn about great wines from the UK and around the World. The majority of these events will be held on our vineyard, but we are also looking to send Chris out to host at venues in the area.
We are also interested in diversifying beyond wine, so expect to see some food, foraging, art, history and woodland events.
If you are interested in any of these events, please sign up to our newsletter.
We hope everyone has a wonderfully productive year, and we hope to see you all again soon. Thank you again for supporting us.
